What is Portrait photography?
Portrait photography is one of the most famous categories of photography. Portrait photography basically is all about capturing the subject or subjects above the belt line ( waist area). And to capture the real emotions and mood of the subject in the most natural way.
Some tips regarding Portrait photography.
Camera Gear: When it comes to photography what matters the most is the lenses. Lenses matter a lot as different focal lengths give different looks. To get the shallow depth or blurry background a lense with wide aperture is needed. For portrait photography prime lenses are highly recommended.
Focusing : Focus is the main part of the photography be it of any form. Focus plays an important role in portrait photography as the photography is always dealing with the shallow depth of the field. When the subject is in the same plane as the lens it’s not that hard to set the focus. When you focus on any of the eyes both the eyes come into focus. The problem arises when both subject and the lens are not in the same plane. Then the focus should be set on the closest eye of the subject. The focus must be tech sharp even if the focus is missed slightly it will be evident in the images and it won’t look good. Make sure with the proper ameture and proper focus you can get sharp portrait images.
Composition: The subject is the main focus of the image. The photographer will want the attention of the viewer on the subject. For that the distractions in the background should be avoided. That can be done by using a wide aperture and focusing on the subject, but other than that if you use good composition you will notice differences in the images.
Reflector: As the name suggests, reflect is the object which reflects the light. The light falls on the reflector and the reflector is set at the angle that the reflected light falls on the subject. Reflector is used when you want to get rid of the shadow or want an even light. The reflector comes in two colors: silver and golden. Generally, the silver side of the reflector is used but you can also use the golden side if you want to put some color in the image.
Location: Location plays a huge role in landscape photography. But that is not the case in portrait pho. Even if you are shooting at a not so good location you can still take advantage of it by taking anything as the background ,for example: a tree. But the image will still look good as the background gets blurry and the main focus is set on the subject.
